The Good Food Cafe Country towns and villages throughout South Africa are fast becoming foodie finds and Napier, in the heart of the picturesque Overberg is no exception. Husband and wife team David and Erica Spilhaus have recently taken over The Good Food Cafe on the main road of Napier, and are set to provide both locals and visitors with delicious and innovative meals. David is passionate about cooking and has over 20 years experience in well known kitchens including the Victoria Junction Hotel (Cape Town), Two Oceans Restaurant (Cape Town), On the Rocks Restaurant (Bloubergstrand) and Lake Pleasant Country Hotel (Garden Route). For the past 6 years he and Erica have been working at five star game lodges across the country - including the world famous Londolozi (Kruger Park), Phinda (KZN), Madikwe (North West) and Nambiti (KZN). Initially David worked as Executive Chef and Erica as Camp Manager, but more recently they worked as a Management Couple for some of these lodges. A stint at managing a private island resort off the coast of Mozambique complements their experience at the top end of the hospitality industry. David and Erica are committed to providing diners with healthy, authentic, cafe style meals, using only the freshest local seasonal ingredients with a strong emphasis on creating unprocessed, home made dishes with a sophisticated feel. They also feel it is important to support the local community, thus many of the ingredients are sourced either from the village of Napier or from the immediate surroundings. Likewise their carefully selected wines are from the Overberg and the Western Cape regions. In addition, all the staff of The Good Food Cafe are local Napier residents and the two kitchen ladies responsible for cleaning and dishwashing are being further empowered as Dave is enhancing their cooking knowledge daily with on the job training. Perfectly poised for a stopover enroute to Arniston, L'Agulhas, De Hoop Nature Reserve, Bredasdorp Hermanus and Caledon, and only an hour and a half out of Cape Town, The Good Food Cafe is the perfect place to head for a day in the Overberg.
